Green Manufacturing

Coca-Cola Refreshments, Bellevue

Coca-Cola’s 23-acre Bellevue facility is a model of environmental excellence for the entire Coca-Cola system. The plant, which mixes syrup for Coca-Cola products distributed throughout the Washington, Oregon, Montana, Alaska and Guam, has a recycling rate of 99.07 percent and serves as the recycling hub for the company’s Pacific Northwest Market Unit. The impressive rate not only means tons of materials avoid going into a landfill, but it also means Coca-Cola recaptures essential commodities, including aluminum and PET plastics. The Bellevue facility is also making impressive strides toward its goal of safely returning to nature an amount of water equivalent to the Coca-Cola beverages it produces by 2020, and it has improved the energy efficiency of its manufacturing, distribution and sales processes. The entire facility has been re-lamped with energy-efficient lights, and it has the largest hybrid electric truck fleet in North America with more than 750 hybrid delivery trucks on the road.
