The Bureau of Labor Statistics says there are more than 14 million unemployed people nationwide.

But, one local mother isn't letting her stroke of bad luck keep her down.

The mother of two says the information highway didn't do the job, so she went out to a real highway in hopes of finding one.

"I'm trying everything that I can," says Julie Smith.

Dressed in her business clothes, Smith is walking in and out of traffic on Tallahassee's busy Apalachee Parkway handing drivers her resume.

She says, "I've tried all the traditional ways and I've applied and applied and applied; sent the follow-up letters and everything."

Smith has been unemployed for about four months.

She says most of the employees at the hotel she was working at were let go when ownership changed.

"It's really hard to get by. The more months go by, the scarier it gets." Says, Smith.

This Thursday morning, is Smith's second time going out there.

She's armed with 120 copies of her resume. Some drivers accept one, others don't bother rolling their windows down.

Smith says, "It's a little embarrassing to get out here in the middle of the street and ask people to take your resume. But, you know, it's just something you got to do right now."

One driver says, "I definitely respect her for coming out here. Absolutely, she's a go-getter."

Smith had to find a make-shift way to put her sign up. Whereas, last week, passersby saw her 11-year-old daughter holding the sign that says, "Give a mom a job. Please take a resume."

Smith's 13-year-old daughter helped hand out the resumes.

Smith says, "They know what I've been going through. They've been going with me to the library to use the Internet. When I have my interviews, they'll say, okay good luck today, mom. I'm hoping this will show people that I'm out here and I am a hard worker and I'm motivated."

Smith says she will come out here every week until she finds a job.

She says she's not picky; anything clerical, administrative, or dealing with computers will do.

Roll Me Away lyrics

Took a look down a westbound road
right away I made my choice
Headed out to my big two-wheeler
I was tired of my own voice
Took a bead on the northern plains
and just rolled that power on

Twelve hours out of Mackinaw City
stopped in a bar to have a brew
Met a girl and we had a few drinks
and I told her what I'd decided to do
She looked out the window a long long moment
then she looked into my eyes
She didn't have to say a thing,
I knew what she was thinkin'

Roll, roll me away
Won't you roll me away tonight?
I too am lost, I feel double-crossed
and I'm sick of what's
wrong and what's right

We never even said a word
We just walked out and got on that bike
And we rolled
And we rolled clean out of sight

[- From :http://www.elyrics.net/read/b/bob-seger-lyrics/roll-me-away-lyrics.html -]

We rolled across the high plains
deep into the mountains
Felt so good to me
finally feelin' free

Somewhere along a high road
the air began to turn cold
She said she missed her home
I headed on alone

Stood alone on a mountain top
starin' out at the great divide
I could go east, I could go west
It was all up to me to decide

Just then I saw a young hawk flyin'
and my soul began to rise
And pretty soon
My heart was singin'

Roll, roll me away,
I'm gonna roll me away tonight
Gotta keep rollin, gotta keep ridin'
keep searchin' till I find what's right
And as the sunset faded
I spoke to the faintest first starlight
And I said next time
Next time
We'll get it right
